F. X. BROWNE, INC. PROGRESS REPORT FOR MAY-JUNE 2005

 

 PA1012-46 - FY 1998 EPA GRANT PROJECT

 Water Quality Monitoring – F. X. Browne, Inc. began work on reestablishing the atmospheric deposition sampling site.  We worked with Karen Mandeville and contacted PPL to obtain permission to reinstall the station.  We provided PPL with information regarding the station, and coordinated work for the reinstallation of the station.

 TMDL - F. X. Browne, Inc. discussed TMDL decision with various Board members and Karen Mandeville and began preparation of a letter to Fred Suffian for redistribution of TMDL funds.

 Brochures – F. X. Browne, Inc. continued work on revisions to all of the brochures.

 Surveys – F. X. Browne, Inc reviewed the summary of the surveys provided by Karen Mandeville and Pete Snyder.  We will include this information in the Updated Management Plan.

 Project Management and Documentation - F. X. Browne, Inc. continued providing project management and documentation services. F. X. Browne, Inc. conducted the following tasks:

  1. Prepared the progress reports for the project.
     
  1. Emailed and mailed the progress report to all Board Members.
     
  1. Changed progress report to pdf format and uploaded to the LWWMD website.
     
  2. Provided overall project management services, including scheduling of task work, review of charges, and preparation of detailed invoice descriptions.

 PA1012-52 - FY 1999 EPA GRANT

 Effectiveness of BMP Controls – F. X. Browne, Inc. worked with Karen to continue monitoring of the Bakker Marina BMP and the Carroll Krautter BMP. 

 Update Management Plan – During May 2005, F. X. Browne, Inc. continued working on the Lake Wallenpaupack Watershed Management Plan update.

 Create an Ecosystem – During May 2005, F. X. Browne, Inc. designed and completed draft versions of the following Create-an-Ecosystem presentations: 

·        First Grade Create-a-Stream

·        Third Grade Create-a-Wetland

·        Fourth Grade Create-a-Stream

·        Fifth Grade Create-a-Lake

F. X. Browne, Inc. also began working on the Sixth Grade Create-a-Wetland presentation, as well as making minor changes and refinements to the seventh and eighth grade presentations.

During June 2005, F. X. Browne, Inc. designed and completed a draft version of the Sixth Grade Create-a-Wetland presentation. F. X. Browne, Inc. also made minor changes and refinements to the other seven presentations.

F. X. Browne, Inc. prepared presentation scripts, teacher’s handouts, and student handouts (including book lists, internet links, and vocabulary lists) for all eight presentations. We also produced draft versions of two hands-on activities to accompany the seventh and eighth grade presentations.

 All eight of the draft presentations and accompanying materials were burned onto a CD and sent to Dr. Browne for his review and comments.

 Community Assistance – During the month of May, F. X. Browne, Inc. conducted a site visit at the property of Robert Giamento from Sterling Township to evaluate a stormwater drainage problem.  We prepared a base map of the property, and are now beginning to develop a recommended plan of action.

 PA1012-55 - LWWMD GROWING GREENER PROJECT

During May, we continued with basic maintenance, including battery charging, rain gage clean-out, etc.  Data from all stations were downloaded weekly (at a minimum).  Upon download, the data were entered into their respective databases created by the Flowlink 4.15 software.  All data were analyzed immediately upon download to ensure that the stations were working properly.  May data for all stations were added to the respective calculations spreadsheets created for this project.  We began evaluating the data and began working on developing a hydrologic and pollutant budget.

Billing Group 001 – Project Management

 1.      F. X. Browne, Inc. provided overall project management services for all of the active BMP design projects,

2.      Received and reviewed the May Board Meeting Minutes,

3.      Prepared a project status report for the June Board Meeting, and

4.      Discussed Landowner Agreements and bidding the projects with Karen M.

Billing Group 005 – Emil Swingle Farm Project

1.      Discussed project with Karen Mandeville, and

2.   Made minor revisions and additions to the plans.

Billing Group 006 – John Pawlowski Farm Project

1.      Prepared and sent Karen Mandeville generic Notice to Proceed so that she could send it to the selected contractor, and

2.  Discussed project on several occasions with Karen Mandeville.

Billing Group 008 – Will Keating Farm Project

1.   Discussed project with Karen Mandeville on several occasions.

Billing Group 011 – Jim Keating Farm  Project

1.      Discussed project with Karen Mandeville on several occasions.

PA1012-63 – 2005 GENERAL ENGINEERING

During the month of May 2005, F. X. Browne, Inc. performed the following tasks:

1.                  Prepared for and attended the May Board meeting, and

2.                  Held telephone conversations with Karen Mandeville regarding various topics.

PA1012-64  2005 LAKE WALLENPAUPACK WATER QUALITY MONITORING PROJECT

F. X. Browne, Inc. coordinated the May 2005 sampling events for Lake Wallenpaupack.  On May 4, 2005, we collected surface, middle, and bottom water samples for chemical analysis at Station #3, and on May 17, 2005, we collected surface, middle, and bottom water samples for chemical analysis at Stations #1, #3, and #5.  In addition, on each sampling date we collected photic zone composite samples for chlorophyll a and phytoplankton analyses.  We also collected temperature and dissolved oxygen profile data at 1 meter intervals from the surface to the bottom.  We then transported all samples to our laboratory in Marshalls Creek and analyzed them for total phosphorus, dissolved reactive phosphorus, total Kjeldahl nitrogen, nitrate/nitrite nitrogen, ammonia nitrogen, total suspended solids, alkalinity (surface samples only), and pH.

A summary of the water quality data for May and June 2005 is provided in Appendix A.
