F. X. BROWNE, INC. PROGRESS REPORT FOR FEBRUARY-MARCH 2005
TMDL - F. X. Browne, Inc. attended the February 8th EPA sponsored public meeting for the Lake Wallenpaupack TMDL, reviewed the final draft TMDL report prepared by Tetra Tech, Inc., prepared draft comments on technical issues and concerns regarding the TMDL report, attended a meeting with the Watershed Management Committee to discuss the draft TMDL and to present our draft comments, discussed comment letter with Darryl Speicher and made revisions to comment letter based on these discussions, emailed final comment letter to EPA on March 7th, and contacted the EPA to ensure that our email comments were received on March 7th.
Project Management and Documentation - F. X. Browne, Inc. continued providing project management and documentation services. F. X. Browne, Inc. conducted the following tasks:
4. Provided overall project management services, including scheduling of task work, review of charges, and preparation of detailed invoice descriptions.
PA1012-52 - FY 1999 EPA GRANT
Update Management Plan - F. X. Browne, Inc. continued work on updating of the Lake Wallenpaupack Watershed Management Plan. We began formatting the Lake Wallenpaupack Watershed Management Plan update. We researched population and growth data, and made graphs and tables. We began writing the watershed characteristics sections of the Plan.
Create an Ecosystem - During February 2005, F. X. Browne, Inc. continued gathering information for the Create-an-Ecosystem presentations, and began working on the script and presentation for the first grade Create-a-Stream presentation and the third grade Create-a-Wetland presentation.
Project Management and Documentation - F. X. Browne, Inc. continued providing project management and documentation services. F. X. Browne, Inc. conducted the following tasks:
PA1012-55 - LWWMD GROWING GREENER PROJECT
During February and early March, we continued with basic maintenance, including battery charging, rain gage clean-out, etc. We restarted and reprogrammed all stations which had shut down due to extremely cold weather which occurred during late-January. We conducted stormflow sampling for a smaller storm, with good samples being collected at three of the six stations where rainfall was heavy enough to activate the sample programs. Baseflow samples were also collected at all stations on February 2nd and March 2nd, and were immediately analyzed for all prescribed water quality parameters. Additionally, we obtained a recently released program update for the ISCO samplers which will allow greater control of sampling programs over the phone line connections. We also set-up another connection program which allows better communication with and reporting from the samplers.
Data from all stations were downloaded weekly (at a minimum). Upon download, the data were entered into their respective databases created by the Flowlink 4.15 software. All data were analyzed immediately upon download to ensure that the stations were working properly. January data for all stations were added to the respective calculations spreadsheets created for this project.
During the month of February, F. X. Browne, Inc. performed the following tasks:
1. F. X. Browne, Inc. provided overall project management services for all of the active BMP design projects,
2. Received and reviewed the January Board Meeting Minutes,
3. Prepared a project status report for the February Board Meeting, and
4. Discussed Landowner Agreements and bidding the projects with Karen M.
Billing Group 011 – Jim Keating Farm
1. Wrote description of work completed in January,
2. Discussed project with Jim Keating,
3. Began making revisions to the roof design based on comments from Jim Keating,
4. Called pole building vendors to discuss roof design options, and
5. Updated CAD drawings to correct dimensions of existing barn and truss arrangement.
During February and early March, we completed a draft copy of the 2004 Update report, completed an internal review of the Update report, and made final copies of the report for the District.
During the month of February 2005, F. X. Browne, Inc. compiled progress reports for all LWWMD projects and uploaded it to the web site. Additionally, we sent out hard copies of the progress report, as necessary. We prepared for and attended the February Board meeting.
F. X. Browne, Inc. coordinated the February and March 2005 sampling events for Lake Wallenpaupack. On February 2, 2005 and March 2, 2005, we collected surface, middle, and bottom water samples for chemical analysis at Station #3. In addition, we collected photic zone composite samples for chlorophyll a and phytoplankton analyses. We also collected temperature and dissolved oxygen profile data at 1 meter intervals from the surface to the bottom. The water column was completely mixed, as evidenced by the thermal and dissolved oxygen profiles. A weak reverse thermal stratification was observed, as expected, under wintertime ice cover. We then transported all samples to our laboratory in Marshalls Creek and analyzed them for total phosphorus, dissolved reactive phosphorus, total Kjeldahl nitrogen, nitrate/nitrite nitrogen, ammonia nitrogen, total suspended solids, alkalinity (surface samples only), and pH.
A summary of the water quality data for February and March 2005 is provided in Appendix A.
