PA1012-55 - LWWMD GROWING GREENER PROJECT
During August 2004, F. X. Browne, Inc. continued with basic maintenance, including battery charging, rain gage clean-out, etc. Data from all stations were downloaded weekly. Upon download, the data was entered into their respective databases created by the Flowlink 4.15 software. All data were analyzed immediately upon download to ensure that the stations were working properly.
The sampler at the Purdy Creek Station experienced problems during the month of August and we had to send the sampler to ISCO to be repaired. The computer unit in the sampler died and would not initiate the pump so that samples could be collected. We worked with ISCO to cover this out-of-warranty repair which was only partially covered by ISCO. ISCO will be billing the LWWMD directly for a portion of the repairs. We installed one of our samplers at the Purdy Creek station so that we would not loose any data. We programmed the sampler, manually downloaded data, as necessary (since there is no modem in our unit), and set the sampler to collect storm flows.
On August 4, 2004 and September 8, 2004, dry weather stream samples were collected at the six stream stations and each sample was analyzed for pH, alkalinity, specific conductance, total phosphorus, dissolved reactive phosphorus, total Kjeldahl nitrogen, ammonia nitrogen, nitrate-nitrite nitrogen, and total suspended solids. All data were entered into an excel spreadsheet and reviewed for quality control purposes. We now have five dry weather sampling events.
On August 12, 2004 the samplers collected the first stormwater samples. The sampling event went well. We collected all samples collected from each station, composited the samples, as necessary, and conducted all lab analysis. We reset the samplers and continued with routine maintenance. On September 13, 2004, the samplers collected the second set of stormwater samples. All samples were composited and lab analyses were conducted.

F. X. Browne, Inc. coordinated the August and September 2004 sampling events for Lake Wallenpaupack. On August 2, 2004 and September 7, 2004 we collected surface, middle, and bottom water samples for chemical analysis at Station #3. On August 23, 2004 we collected surface, middle, and bottom water samples for chemical analysis at Stations #1, #3, and #5. In addition, we collected photic zone composite samples for chlorophyll a and phytoplankton analyses at all stations on all dates. We also collected temperature and dissolved oxygen profile data at 1-meter intervals from the surface to the bottom. We transported all samples to our laboratory in Marshalls Creek and analyzed them for total phosphorus, dissolved reactive phosphorus, total Kjeldahl nitrogen, nitrate/nitrite nitrogen, ammonia nitrogen, total suspended solids, fecal coliform bacteria, fecal streptococci bacteria, alkalinity (surface samples only), and pH.
