During May and June 2004, F. X. Browne, Inc. continued with basic maintenance, including battery charging, rain gage clean-out, etc. During May, three of the samplers lost power during the severe lightening storms; however, these stations are up and running again.
Data from all stations were downloaded weekly (at a minimum, with more frequent downloads occurring during the coldest weather in an effort not to lose data). Upon download, the data entered into their respective databases created by the Flowlink 4.15 software. All data were analyzed immediately upon download to ensure that the stations were working properly. We have begun to develop rating curves, and will begin to program the samplers to collect stormwater samples within the next two weeks. We collected dry weather samples at all stations in May and June and analyzed them for the parameters listed in the Work Plan.
Billing Group 001 – Project Management - F. X. Browne, Inc. provided overall project management services for all of the active BMP design projects.
Billing Group 002 - Krautter Farm –During the month of May, F. X. Browne, Inc. conducted the final site inspection for the Krautter Farm. We are currently working with Karen Mandeville to determine the value of in-kind service that Mr. Krautter has provided for this project.
Billing Group 005 and 009 – Swingle Farm and Bill Whermann Farm - F. X. Browne, Inc. reviewed and edited the contract documents per EPA comments concerning CFR.
Billing Group 006 – Pawlowski Farm – F. X. Browne, Inc. spoke with Ken Harvey of NRCS concerning stormwater system design processes, reviewed design process information and photographs from Ken Harvey, redesigned stormwater control system and performed calculations according to NRCS guidelines, conducted internal meeting to discuss design revisions, made revisions to the plans per the Wayne Conservation District, called and spoke with John Pawlowski concerning required design changes, created details for filter box, filter area, and collection swale, revised the plans to include details and updated erosion and sediment control notes, finalized revised erosion and sediment control plan and sent to Wayne Conservation District, and called Wayne Conservation District to follow up on resubmission.
Billing Group 008 - Will Keating Farm – F. X. Browne, Inc. reviewed the design work and calculations done prior to stoppage of work, determined accurate site location on USGS quadrangles and USDA soil maps to determine soil types for proposed infiltration structures, revised the plans to include details and updated erosion and sediment control notes, and began quantity take-off from plans for stormwater calculations and to determine required materials.
Billing Group 012 – Mangan Cove Shoreline Stabilization Project – F. X. Browne, Inc. discussed this project on several occasions with Karen Mandeville. We sent Karen a Notice of Intent to Award a Contract sample letter and a Notice to Proceed sample letter for her to use for this project.
Billing Group 013 – Bob Lesniak Farm BMP Project – F. X. Browne, Inc. updated and revised all contract documents and specifications for this project, and we sent Karen a Notice to Bidders so that she could put project out to bid.
During the month of May 2004, F. X. Browne, Inc. prepared for and attended the May 2004 LWWMD Board Meeting and discussed various project related topics with Karen Mandeville by telephone. Additionally, we compiled all LWWMD water quality data on one CD and sent it to Karen so she can give it to Palmyra Township, per their request.
F. X. Browne, Inc. coordinated the May and June 2004 sampling events for Lake Wallenpaupack. On May 5, 2004 and June 7, 2004 we collected surface, middle, and bottom water samples for chemical analysis at Station #3. On May 19, 2004 we collected surface, middle, and bottom water samples for chemical analysis at Stations #1, #3, and #5. In addition, we collected photic zone composite samples for chlorophyll a and phytoplankton analyses at all stations on all dates. We also collected temperature and dissolved oxygen profile data at 1-meter intervals from the surface to the bottom. We transported all samples to our laboratory in Marshalls Creek and analyzed them for total phosphorus, dissolved reactive phosphorus, total Kjeldahl nitrogen, nitrate/nitrite nitrogen, ammonia nitrogen, total suspended solids, fecal coliform bacteria, fecal streptococci bacteria, alkalinity (surface samples only), and pH.
A summary of the May 2004 water quality data is provided in Appendix A.
