LAKE WALLENPAUPACK WATERSHED MANAGEMENT DISTRICT
F. X. BROWNE, INC. PROGRESS REPORT FOR NOVEMBER-DECEMBER 2003
Volunteer Monitoring Program During this reporting period, F. X. Browne, Inc. continued work on the Volunteer Water Quality Monitoring Program.
F. X. Browne, Inc. completed three reports for lake assessments that had been performed prior to last years work freeze due to the audit and sent them to Karen Mandeville. These reports included the Paupackan Lake, Tanglwood Lake, and Butler Pond reports. Karen was planning to send copies of the reports to the lake association members. F. X. Browne, Inc. also completed reports for two lake assessments that were performed during the summer of 2003, including a pond on Spinner Brook in Paupack (Murray Pond) and an unnamed pond on Stock Farm Road in Lake Ariel. F. X. Browne, Inc. printed and mailed one copy of each report to Karen Mandeville at LWWMD, and one copy to each of the clients, along with a cover letter.
F. X. Browne, Inc. printed and mailed extra copies of each of the aforementioned reports plus the Volunteer Lake reports and the Lake Ariel, Waynewood Lake, and Roamingwood Lake reports to Karen Mandeville for submission to the EPA. The total number of LWWMD watershed small lake reports submitted to the EPA was seven.
Streambank Stabilization Handbook During November, F. X. Browne, Inc. conducted the first round of editing of the Shoreline and Streambank Stabilization Handbook. The edited document was given to Dr. Browne for final editing. A draft, colored copy was presented at the November Board meeting for informational purposes.
Project Documentation - F. X. Browne, Inc. prepared the monthly progress report for November-December for this project and provided general project management services, including scheduling of task assignments, review of charges, and preparation of detailed invoice descriptions. In addition, we created a web version of the LWWMD progress report for November-December, changed the log-in page to include new links, created a PDF version of the progress report, uploaded the files to the server, and tested the log-in, links and report pages.
PA1012-52 - FY 1999 EPA GRANT
BMP Effectiveness F. X. Browne, Inc. computerized all water quality data collected from the Krautter Farm and Bakker Marina.

PA1012-55 - LWWMD GROWING GREENER PROJECT
During November, F. X. Browne, Inc. continued maintenance and set-up work on all six of the stream stations. All solar power hook-ups were completed and the phone line connections were established at five of the six stations, with the remaining connection to occur in early December. The in-stream probe and water intake at the Mill were moved to a better location within the channel, as higher flows caused data interference at the original location. Additionally, a new staff gage was established at the Mill Brook station to replace the original one that was apparently lost to high stormflows. With exception of the phone line connection at the Main Stem Wallenpaupack Creek station, all stations are up and running as designed. Basic maintenance, including battery charging, rain gage clean-out, rodent removal (mouse problem at Main Stem station), etc. were conducted at all stations during our site visits.
Problems with the ISCO sampler at the Ariel Creek station were corrected under warranty. The station was tested in the field by F. X. Browne, to determine the nature of the problem and if it would be covered by warranty. Once the problem was diagnosed, the computer unit from the sampler unit was removed and sent to ISCO for repair. The repairs were made, and the sampler computer unit was returned. We immediately reinstalled the unit and returned the station to full operation.
Additionally, we installed the Flowlink 4.15 software and external PC modem at our office in Marshalls Creek as required for telecommunication download of streamflow and rainfall data. The computer database was set-up for receiving data from all six-stream stations. Data from the five connected stations were downloaded weekly, and data from the Main Stem station were downloaded using a data transfer card. All data were entered into their respective databases created in the Flowlink 4.15 software. All data were analyzed immediately upon download to ensure that the stations were working properly. A sample streamflow hydrograph from the automatic samplers is provided in Appendix A.
We conducted a detailed cross-section survey of the Main Stem station as necessary to determine streamflow using the manual streamflow monitoring equipment from the bridge. We also collected several manual streamflows from the Main Stem and West Branch Wallenpaupack Creek stations, where it is necessary to use a more sophisticated flow meter configuration.
During December, F. X. Browne, Inc. continued maintenance work on all six of the stream stations. We continued to work with Verizon on the phone line connection for the Main Stem station. Basic maintenance, including battery charging and rain gage clean-out were conducted at all stations during our site visits.
Additionally, we continued the weekly download of data from the five connected stations. All data were entered into their respective databases created in the Flowlink 4.15 software. All data were analyzed immediately upon download to ensure that the stations were working properly.
We conducted a detailed cross-section survey of the West Branch station as necessary to determine streamflow using the manual streamflow monitoring equipment from the bridge. We also collected manual streamflows from the Main Stem and West Branch Wallenpaupack Creek stations under very high streamflows.
Billing Group 002 - Krautter Farm F. X. Browne, Inc. met with 84 Lumber to discuss the problems with the building materials estimate, met with Carrol Krautter to discuss the building issues and possible solutions, and prepared a list of all items not included in the 84 Lumber estimate needed to complete the building as per the FXB plans. On November 10, 2003, we attended a site meeting with Karen Mandeville, Carrol Krautter and Mike Chase to go over the project progress and remaining schedule. We met with Gumble Brothers on November 10th and November 11th to obtain an estimate from them to supply the remaining items for the building construction. On November 17th and November 18th, we inspected the concrete pad pouring by Chase Construction and met with 84 Lumber to return the unused lumber for refund. We assisted with loading all of the unused lumber onto the pickup truck. On November 24th and 25th we met with Gumble Brothers to finalize the estimate for the remaining lumber items and met with Carrol Krautter to go over the new estimate. We held numerous telephone conversations with Carroll Krautter and Karen Mandeville to discuss the project.
Billing Group 003 WLE Swales F. X. Browne, Inc. reviewed the project construction photographs and sent copies to Karen Mandeville requesting that she discuss stabilization of the area between the road and the swale with John Carney.
Billing Group 005 Swingle Farm No work was completed for this task.
Billing Group 008 Will Keating Farm No work was completed for this task.
Billing Group 009 Bill Whermann Farm No work was completed for this task.
Billing Group 010 James Keating Farm No work was completed for this task.

PA1012-60 2003 LAKE WALLENPAUPACK WATER QUALITY MONITORING PROJECT
F. X. Browne, Inc. coordinated the November and December 2003 sampling events for Lake Wallenpaupack.
On November 10, 2003 F. X. Browne, Inc. collected surface, middle, and bottom water samples for chemical analysis at Station #3. In addition, we collected samples for chlorophyll a, phytoplankton, and zooplankton analyses. We then transported the samples to our laboratory in Marshalls Creek and analyzed them for total phosphorus, dissolved reactive phosphorus, total Kjeldahl nitrogen, nitrate/nitrite nitrogen, ammonia nitrogen, total suspended solids, fecal coliform bacteria, fecal streptococci bacteria, alkalinity (surface samples only), and pH.
