LAKE WALLENPAUPACK WATERSHED MANAGEMENT DISTRICT
F. X. BROWNE, INC. PROGRESS REPORT FOR DECEMBER 2004-JANUARY
2005
TMDL - F. X. Browne, Inc. received several calls and emails from Tetra Tech
personnel regarding the TMDL. We began
review of the draft TMDL results that Tetra Tech has developed.
Brochures - F. X. Browne, Inc. continued work on developing
brochures for Stormwater Management, Watershed Management, Aquatic Ecosystem
Restoration, and Watershed Best Management Practices. We are currently
reviewing our full draft copies of these brochures.
Project Management and Documentation -
F. X. Browne,
Inc. continued providing project management and documentation services. F. X.
Browne, Inc. conducted the following tasks:
PA1012-52 - FY 1999 EPA GRANT
Update Management Plan -
F. X. Browne, Inc. continued work on updating of the
Lake Wallenpaupack Watershed Management Plan.

During
December, we continued with basic maintenance, including battery charging, rain
gage clean-out, etc. The batteries were
changed-out at all stations and the larger, single batteries were connected to
better power the stations during this cold weather period. Additionally, we received the replacement
probes and flow modules from ISCO and restored permanent installation of the
probes and intake lines at both the Main Stem and West Branch stations. Both stations were returned to normal
operating condition, and all stations were programmed and set to resume
collection of stormflow composite samples.
As a result of these repairs, all stations had been restored to full and
normal operation. Baseflow samples were
also collected at all stations, and were immediately analyzed for all
prescribed water quality parameters.
During
January, we installed temporary water intake lines in the stream channel at
both Mill Brook and Purdy Creek stations where the originally installed lines
appeared to be frozen and unable to pass water for sample collection. Baseflow samples were also collected at all
stations, and were immediately analyzed for all prescribed water quality
parameters.
Data
from all stations were downloaded weekly (at a minimum). Upon download, the data were entered into
their respective databases created by the Flowlink 4.15 software. All data were analyzed immediately upon
download to ensure that the stations were working properly.
Data
for each station were then formatted into monthly spreadsheets for the study
period to date, as necessary to calculate hydrologic (water) and nutrient
budgets. Missing data (e.g. due to
battery failure during extremely cold weather and equipment failure) were
determined using appropriate and scientifically acceptable methods. Rainfall data were added to all spreadsheets,
accordingly, and we separated flow volumes by baseflow and stormflow. Finally, the spreadsheets were formatted so
that nutrient concentrations and flow characteristics could be edited and all
parameters would be automatically updated and recalculated.
