NJ Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program Grants Applications for the New Jersey Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program (WHIP) will be accepted by NRCS Service Centers at any time during the year. However, the current application sign-up deadline, in order to be considered for 2004 funding, ends April 2, 2004. Under WHIP, NRCS provides technical and financial assistance for creating, enhancing and maintaining wildlife habitat on non-federal lands. Projects must be targeted towards one of the six wildlife habitat categories the NJ State Technical Committee has designated as eligible: Lower Cape May Priority Area - a priority wildlife habitat area, Bog Turtle Habitat - on lands providing habitat for the federally threatened bog turtle, Early Successional Habitat - dedicated to early successional wildlife habitat, such as grassland restoration, Riparian Habitat, Invasive Exotic Vegetation Control, and School Site Habitat - for environmental education.
