NY:  Benthic Macroinvertebrate Identification Course

 

The 2004 Benthic Macroinvertebrate Identification Course will be held on August 23 – 27 at the NYS DEC Pack Demonstration Forest in Warren County, NY. The five-day program takes place in the Southern Adirondack Park among numerous streams, lakes, and wetlands. Classroom instruction on benthic macroinvertebrate ecology, systematics, and character interpretation as well as field and lab work will occur however, the emphasis will focus on lab work utilizing dissecting microscopes and aquatic keys to properly identify organisms. Additionally, high-resolution digital photography emphasizing key identification features for major aquatic insect families and other major aquatic orders will be reviewed throughout the week.
