F. X. Browne, Inc. designed a 3.65 MGD Phased Oxidation Ditch treatment plant and pump station for Burlington Township.  The innovative, cost-saving Phased Oxidation Ditch treatment plant was selected since it was the most cost-effective and energy efficient system. It was selected based on an exhaustive review of wastewater literature and a trip to Denmark to observe this treatment process in operation.  The EPA has recognized the Phase Oxidation Ditch treatment plant as an innovative technology due to its cost effectiveness, low energy requirements, and low operational costs. Selection of the Phased Isolation Ditch, the first of its kind in the United States, resulted in a construction cost saving of $4 million dollars relative to other more conventional systems.
